BA Film Studies

I chose to study here because it was close to where I lived and offered the Film Studies course that I was looking for. During my course, I was lucky enough to encounter really passionate Film lecturers who sparked a fire in me to want to work in film and make films.

A lecture I had on German Expressionism with Peter Homden changed my life. In addition, the course opened up my mind to a world of films that I didn't even know existed. Discovering about them and learning about their importance, significance of genre and representation of the world around them made me want to make films. The course  has hugely helped my directing because I feel I now have the contextual skills to develop in my storytelling. I now work as a VFX Coordinator, which means essentially that I organise shot data for my Supervisor to give notes on.

When directing I am in control of an entire film set making sure everyone stays on target for what I want to achieve. My advice to current and future students would be, if you want to make films, make sure you make films. No matter how big or small - just make films. It's the only way to really learn. As James Cameron says, "Pick up a camera and you are now a Director".
