Ruth Hollier

Senior Lecturer in Primary Education

I lead the BEd (Hons) Primary Education with QTS course, am a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education and part of the Primary Maths Team.

Biography

I joined the Primary Education Team in October 2013, having enjoyed a rewarding career as a primary school teacher and Deputy Head. My strength lies in primary maths, but I also teach on professional studies modules and lead the BEd (Hons) Primary Education with QTS course.

In addition to my day to day work at the University, I am involved in working with the GLOW Maths Hub to support teachers and schools in developing their maths teaching and learning in schools locally and nationally. With my colleagues in the Primary Maths Team, I co-authored a chapter on promoting classroom talk to develop mathematical reasoning in our publication “Teaching the Primary Curriculum”. I have been recognised as a University Teaching Fellow because of the wide range and impact of my work.

The best part of my job is working alongside students and helping them develop into professionals who share my enthusiasm for learning and teaching and who are well-placed to make a great contribution to children’s learning and development in schools in the future.
