Staff Profile: Natalie Dowling Senior Lecturer in Youth Work and Placement Coordinator
Senior Lecturer in Youth Work and Placement Coordinator
Social Work and Social Care
I have experience working for a range of youth organisations and always enjoyed the new and exciting experiences this brings. Having worked in a range of different environments enables me to bring practice examples into lecture discussions.
I started my youth work career working on detached youth projects and also became a community member for a referral order panel. I worked for a charity supporting young people who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, working in both drop in’s and residential projects. I then became a full-time Youth Development Worker working in both detached and school settings. I returned to university to complete my Masters and began working for a young persons’ substance misuse charity working in early intervention, before providing more intensive support.
Executive Committee Member Federation for Detached Youth Work
I work on a range of modules across the youth, health and social care courses including, working with children and young people, youth justice theory, youth work theory, mentoring, preparation for learning in the workplace, criminal justice, and managing people in organisations.
