David Hambling

Senior Lecturer in Social Work

Social work is a responsible and privileged career finding out about peoples lives, listening to their stories and ensuring their rights are respected. Helping people make sense of what is happening in their lives is incredibly important. My passion is to help students learn about the knowledge,…

Biography

I am a registered social worker and have been working within children and families social work teams since 2003, qualifying in 2006 with an MA in Social Work from Warwick University. I continue to provide occasional specialist assessments as a senior practitioner working with children and their families. I am the Academic Course Leader for the Social Work BSc Degree (Hons) Degree at the University of Gloucestershire and have been a senior lecturer since 2014 specialising in areas including ethics, rights, risks and children and families social work. An emphasise of my lecturing style is facilitating students being actively engaged in their learning through the use of ethical activities and practice related simulations placing students out of their comfort zone to ensure that they are prepared for practice placements responding humanely when under pressure. My research interests include playfulness in social work practice and increasing participation of children and families within ‘the system’.
