What is a higher or degree apprenticeship?

Higher and degree apprenticeships are an alternative to traditional university study, giving your employees the opportunity to obtain a higher qualification and learn professional skills.

Superdry

"We think it will develop our people by helping them to acquire knowledge, skills and competencies across a broad range of subjects they don’t currently know about, and help them to think more strategically. This will naturally help their own professional development and enhance their career prospects, and will allow us to benefit from the broadening of their skills by deploying them to do more challenging and difficult work across the wider business."

Simon Amesbury, Resourcing Manager, Superdry

Funding

If your business is registered in England and has a pay bill of less than £3 million each year, you're only required to pay 10% of the costs towards an apprenticeship, with the government paying the remaining 90%.

If your business is registered in England and has a pay bill of more than £3 million each year, apprenticeship costs will be funded by the apprenticeship levy.

BUSINESS FOCUS

Clarkson Evans

"Many of our talented middle managers have moved through the ranks having completed apprenticeships earlier in their careers. They were all capable of going to university but chose a different path to employment. Degree apprenticeships are a way of helping our staff, who now relish the academic challenge of a degree, to do so whilst maintaining their critical roles in our business."

Lindsey Young, Chief Operating Officer, Clarkson Evans

BUSINESS FOCUS

NHS

"We were very impressed with the University of Gloucestershire who placed us the employer at the heart of the decision making process from the off, from curriculum through to validation of the whole qualification. There was lots of support from the University to help us take this programme forward."
