The Early Years Foundation Degree enables committed and hardworking Early Years practitioners and teaching assistants to gain recognition for advanced skills with children. The modules and assessment tasks have been designed to enable direct contributions to workplace performance. There will also be an emphasis on management and inter-agency working. Modules will be delivered in a variety of flexible ways and may include work-based learning, online learning and distance learning.

Entry requirements
Students under 21 need to be in relevant employment or voluntary work and have one of the following:
- One A Level in a relevant subject
- Advanced VCE AS, A or Double Single Units (Key Skills, Maths, VCE), Scottish Framework Qualification
- CACHE Diploma in Child Care Education
Applications are particularly welcome from mature students working in relevant employment or voluntary work. A reference will be sought from your employer to indicate that you will have their support throughout the course. All entrants will have a valid enhanced CRB check. Students wishing to progress onto ITT courses need to have GCSEs at grade A-C in English and Maths.
This course will normally require a satisfactory reference and 80 UCAS points from a relevant area of study and an interview and skills test. Exceptional entry may be authorised for mature applicants where previous occupational experience is recognised. A relevant QAA recognised Access Certificate awarded by an authorised validating agency is also accepted.
Progression opportunities
On successful completion of the Foundation Degree, students will be able to progress onto the final year of a degree related to Health, Community, Childhood Studies, Early Years Studies or Education Studies at the University of Gloucestershire. Students wishing to become managers in an Early Years setting should select the Management Option for their Level 2 Independent Work-Based Project.
