Postgraduate Taught Courses

Computing (IT Management)

Postgraduate Certificate/Postgraduate Diploma/MSc

Our Computing (IT Management) course is ideal if you are interested in understanding and implementing effective IT solutions in a business setting.

This degree aims to develop your analytical, technical and strategic business skills, combining theory, tools, methods and management techniques to produce high quality, well integrated IT/IS solutions. We also focus on professional IT project management, database management, ethical and quality issues, the human-computer interface and research methods, providing you with a broad and well-balanced perspective.

You should have a good honours degree and you will need to be competent in using information technology. Given that computing is such a broad subject field, we start from the basics with an introductory two-week intensive foundation in programming, databases and computer architecture as well as masters level study skills. Certificate level modules build on this and are fast-paced and demanding.

You will become part of a vibrant academic community, supported by enthusiastic, experienced lecturers, with theory underpinned by live case studies. We encourage you to build on any previous expertise, perhaps using it as a basis for your dissertation.

There are four related masters programmes in computing. The structure of the programmes is designed to be flexible so that you can easily change from one to another, depending on choice of option module.

MSc Computing with IT Management
I decided to take the opportunity to do a Masters in order to enhance my professional life. I started my research on the different universities and courses available, during which I spoke to my sister who had previously completed her LLM at the University of Gloucestershire. Her positive feedback encouraged me to look at the University website. I have been extremely fortunate to find the perfect blend of subject material at a location so close to home.  With a high graduate employability rate, a modern campus at a good location and a well thought out course, joining the University of Gloucestershire has really been the right choice for me.
The course is professionally structured with all modules being interlinked. This really helped a great deal with understanding the issues within each individual module as it enabled me to look at the topics from a different perspective.
The interlinking aspect of the course, along with the intellectually challenging discussions in class, has really been the highlight of the year.  In addition, the input from all the teachers, stemming from their vast experience, is not only impressive but also mentally stimulating.   In particular, I found the IS/IT Management Course Leader the most impressive, mainly due to the tutor’s ‘different’ style of teaching.
After completion, I intend to work in an area related to IS/IT management, mainly because the course has helped me to grasp the understanding of different aspects of IS/IT systems and their implications on the business environment. In addition, it has helped me in applying practical methods to develop strategies as well as manage and deal with changes resulting from the introduction of IT in an organisation.
I will really miss being able to engage in intellectual discussions, something that made each class worth looking forward to, as well as learning from the wide experience of tutors and colleagues, not only about the subject but also life in general.
Doing a Masters at the University of Gloucestershire has been a great experience; one which has made a mark on both my professional and personal life and one which I will never forget. I’ll always look back at my time here with great pleasure and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the University for making it such a memorable experience.
