Introduction
The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply is the professional body for those who are developing a career in purchasing. The programme offers entry points throughout the year.
The University of Gloucestershire is recognised as a CIPS Centre of Excellence, a status it has held since 2006.
CIPS course leader Hilary Paveley said when the award was received in February 2007: “We are delighted to receive this award which is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our teaching team and the excellent results achieved by our students.”
For 2011-12 the university is planning to offer all 5 x Level 4 modules of the Foundation Diploma, as listed below:
Level 4 Foundation Diploma (Five Compulsory Subjects)
- Managing Purchasing & Supply Relationships
- Effective Negotiation in Purchasing & Supply
- Developing Contracts in Purchasing & Supply
- Measuring Purchasing Performance
- Purchasing Contexts
The delivery format for the above will be a mix of day time delivery and intensive one week courses, to enable students to complete the Foundation Diploma in one year.

The course fees shown in the fees box, refer to the taught element of the course. Additionally, students will need to purchase the relevant course and textbooks for each module. Students must also register directly with CIPS to become a member of the Institute and pay the exam fees for each module.
In addition to the Level 4 courses above, the University is also planning to offer Level 5 Advanced Diploma courses from January 2012.

- Risk Management & Supply Chain Vulnerability
- Improving Supply Chain Performance
Plus two optional subjects from:
- Sustainable Procurement
- Operations Management in the Supply Chain

To be eligible to sit the examinations you must register as a student of the Institute. If you are intending to take your first examinations at a November sitting you must ensure you register with the Institute by early September.
