The Programme
What’s involved?
- Building on your knowledge of the main functional areas of management through the development of both your personal and academic skills.
- A constructive analysis of your own managerial experiences in the workplace.
- Key modules include finance, marketing and people management.
Why choose this course?
- It broadens your knowledge and skills in the field of management.
- It formally recognises your previous knowledge and managerial experience and enhances your professional development.
- It equips you with the necessary business skills to further your development if you choose to study for our Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) a postgraduate qualification.
- It gives you flexibility by offering three pathways of study.
Three pathways of study
Taught
Delivered within a class room environment at the University, this course can be completed within one year on a part time basis. Classes are in the evenings and typically start in September and finish in May the following year. There is only one intake per year.
Work-based learning
This pathway requires you to demonstrate that you are able to meet the learning outcomes of the study modules within your work environment. You will be allocated a specialist advisor/ assessor on a one-to-one, per-module basis, who will support you and agree what evidence is required to show that you have met the learning outcomes. Although this pathway is generally open for enrolment throughout the year, there is a time limit for achieving the learning outcome in each module.
Blended
Alternatively, you can arrange to take some modules via the taught pathway and others via the work-based learning pathway if this is more suited to your lifestyle.
Our modules
- Managing People
- Marketing
- Managing Finance & Information
- The Context of Business
- Skills / Personal Development
Career paths
- The CMS provides both the theoretical and practical framework to support development and further your career in management.
- On successful completion, progression to the DMS and subsequently, Masters level study is possible. There is also the added benefit of some subject exemptions within the MBA if you continue with this study path.
Entry requirements
- Formal qualifications are not required for entry to the CMS. You should, however, be able to demonstrate that you will benefit from undertaking the course and, in view of its work-related nature, have recent and relevant work experience.
- If you can demonstrate that you already meet the requirements of the learning outcomes of any module(s) you may be awarded a credit in accordance with the university policy on the accreditation of prior learning.
