Key Content
This course will provide delegates with practical knowledge app technologies and enable them to build their own well designed apps for mobile devices and create interactive content for those apps that include graphics, animation, video and audio, along with utilising device features like geolocation, accelerometer, camera and storage, using a variety of tools and applying good design principles and standards.
Apps will be developed using ActionScript3 (Adobe Flash CS5) of which some knowledge would be beneficial, but not essential (the course will not be covering ObjectiveC, Java, or C#, although these will be explained as development areas). The course will be supported by a wide range of learning materials, sample apps, code and tutorials.
Areas covered:
- Understand the technologies & development tools underlying applications and the devices that deliver them
- the design and usability issues related to developing content for screen sizes ranging from mobile phones to web TV
- creation and publishing of an app for a mobile platform
- the principles of usability as applied to good content design
- creation of well designed, interactive content with video, sound, animation
- utilisation of devices features – geolocation, accelerometer, camera, storage
- international standards of compliance and accessibility in producing content
When, Where and How Much?
App Development for Desktop and Mobile is a two-day course of interactive workshops followed by an online supported project over 6 weeks and a final presentation and feedback session. The course will be run on 28th/29th April at The University of Gloucestershire, Media Centre, The Park, Cheltenham, GL50 2RH. The cost of this course will be £800.
Course Delivery
The course will be delivered in three stages:
- A two day workshop: Which will include extensive hands-on work creating apps for a range of devices and to the participants own requirements.
- Six weeks online support via our VLE.
- A half-day presentation/assessment session at the end of the period of online support.
If you go on to participate in and pass more of our courses you can accrue credit towards a PG Cert (3 courses), a PG Dip (6 courses) and a Masters (dissertation).
Facilities
The workshop will take place at Park Campus, which is part of the University of Gloucestershire and is located in The Park, Cheltenham.
Entry Requirements
This course is open to professionals with an undergraduate degree and the required work experience in a relevant industry (normally a minimum of two years); and to non-graduates with significant and relevant work experience (normally four years) that can demonstrate an ability to both complete and benefit from the course. There are no additional entry requirements for this course.
