Or … enter the world of the moving image …
Course Overview
This course is aimed at individuals working in the photography and associated creative industries, and those wanting to find work in this sector. It assumes professional expertise and an in depth knowledge of digital still photography and basic competence with new and emerging media, and aims to build upon this practical knowledge to explore contemporary digital video production. The module will build upon the platform of the still photographers’ experience to develop professional video skills and knowledge whilst investigating the potential offered by contemporary trends in video production and technological convergence.
Key Content
Whether using the next generation of HD video equipped DSLR or a basic Digital Video camera, still photographers are increasingly required to be able to bring their visual skills to the production of moving images. This course addresses the fundamental skills and knowledge needed by photographers to produce effective digital videos for anything from HD quality documentaries to podcasts.
The course will cover the importance of script visualisation and effective planning, the language of film making, the importance of such considerations as storyboarding, blocking, staging, camera positions and ‘crossing the line’.
They will also learn how to incorporate sound, the implications and complexities of sourcing and adding sound to images, using digital sound recording equipment, sound files and editing.
They will consider the contemporary audiences for HD broadcast quality films, podcasts and low resolution video, such as for YouTube and mobile devices and will question technical approaches and develop production strategies, including undertaking costings and addressing copyright and licensing issues.
