Our primary and secondary teacher training programmes are awarded consistently high grades by the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED).
The Department of Education offers a range of initial teacher education (ITE) routes to Qualified Teacher Status. You can choose to study over three years for a BEd Primary Degree, or if you already have a first Degree, you can train to become a primary or secondary teacher by studying our one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
Whichever option you choose, you will have the opportunity to work in two or more schools, so that you can gain invaluable practical experience. We have strong partnerships with over 250 primary schools and 50 secondary schools, and we work closely with them to ensure our programmes are relevant and up-to-date. Head Teachers also advise on course content and training requirements for new teachers. Each school has its own training manager, and you will be supported by a mentor from the school or the University throughout your studies.
