Advertising and design students from the University of Gloucestershire celebrated their best ever year at 2009's prestigious D&AD Student Awards.
One hundred student teams from Europe, the US and Asia were nominated for the coveted D&AD Yellow Pencils, but it was the University of Gloucestershire's own advertising students who won two of the top prizes.
Over 170 judges representing major brands and creative agencies made up the 26 juries that selected the best work of the year. The winning students faced tough competition from the likes of Central St Martin’s and the Miami Ad School, with nearly 3000 world-wide entries into the awards.
Chris Lurcook , Laura Beard and Victoria Fannon scooped first place in the Direct Mail Advertising category, with Aaron McCarthy and Emily Churches winning a coveted Student Yellow Pencil award for their product advertising concept. Aaron and Emily also came second in the advertising concept category.
Advertising students Nikki Heathcote, Andy Parsons, Chris Lurcook, Laura Beard and Victoria Fannon were named winners in the D&AD Best of New Blood Awards – the D&AD version of ‘Best in Show’. They received a free D&AD membership for one year, are eligible for the D&AD graduate placement scheme, and are invited to join talentpool, the D&AD's online portfolio site.
Elsa Tomkins, Christopher Keatinge, Chris Lurcook, Laura Beard and Victoria Fannon will have their work published in the D&AD Annual.
Advertising course leader, Frank Holmes said, “It's been another fantastic year, the students have done it again! It’s a great reward for all the staff too who have put so much into the course.'
