Honours Degree
If you’re fascinated by all creatures great and small, this could be the degree for you.
Combining up-to-the-minute scientific knowledge with contemporary laboratory and field methods, we take a theoretical and practical approach to the diversity, physiology, ecology, evolution and behaviour of animals. We explore their form and function, how they are adapted to their environment, and how they interact with one another. As well as specialised knowledge and skills, you’ll also develop an understanding of the ‘bigger picture’ - the impact that global change will have on animals.
Central to the course is a large practical element, including at least two residential field courses (in recent years we have been to Snowdonia National Park, the Jurassic Coast of Dorset, Brazil and the Algarve). Our biology laboratory includes up-to-date microscopy and audio-visual technologies and you’ll be able to opt for several psychology modules should you wish.
Our biosciences staff are well-placed to get you where you want to be in the working world. We’ve developed local and national industry links as well as international research partnerships that will help you to gain work-related experience and project opportunities that will enhance your ability to compete for many jobs.
There is also the chance to get modular credit for work experience and volunteering - both of which can make your CV stand out in a competitive job market.
