Child Care Practice 2012 Entry

University Diploma/Top Up Degree/Honours Degree

This programme enables professionally qualified child care practitioners to develop and extend their theoretical and practical skills in working with children, young people, their families and carers.

Firmly placed in the context of contemporary child care policy and practice and developed in partnership with employers to deliver the General Social Care Council’s PQ Specialist Award in Social Work with Children, Young People, Their Families and Carers. It’s also open to any professionally qualified child care practitioner wishing to develop their knowledge and skills.

This is a part–time programme for students who are currently in appropriate employment and the assessment of practice in the workplace is a central feature of the award. Most modules are delivered by way of short intensive study blocks. A workplace or combined learning approach is being developed for some modules.

Taught modules explore the evidence base of contemporary child care practice, developments in child welfare law and policy and encourage the development of skills in direct work with children and families, and the supervision and development of professional staff.
