"During my time at the University of Gloucestershire I first developed an interest in the way in which films are distributed"

Kieran Masterton

"The business that I co-founded, OpenIndie, provides an alternative form of theatrical distribution for independent films. These movies may have either been unable to attract traditional distribution or wish to augment a limited theatrical release with crowd sourced screenings. Paramount Pictures recently used a model similar to ours to distribute their low budget feature Paranormal Activity (2007).
"At OpenIndie I am responsible for all technology choices, I steer the development of the site and still contribute heavily to the code base myself. As co-founder, I do a lot of strategic work mainly around the future of the product and how we are going to bring the technology to a wider audience. This is coupled with regular liaison with filmmakers and distribution specialists to ensure that our road map for the future is going to best serve the filmmaking community and the audience.
"It was during my time at the University of Gloucestershire that I first developed an interest in the way in which both Hollywood and independent films are distributed. This interest was sparked while discussing these issues in modules which deal with Hollywood as a business and American Independent cinema. These courses coupled with an interest in all things digital lead me to start considering how technology could help independent filmmakers to get their films in front of an audience."
