"I very much appreciated how the university staff welcomed me and I also loved all the social events organised by the Students’ Union"

Marketing Management (Erasmus exchange programme)

The University of Gloucestershire has an agreement with my French university and it was one of only a few English-speaking universities that I could choose. Moreover, I understand that the Business School has a good reputation and that the qualification is highly regarded. I had already visited England and liked it so, if the University was good, there was no hesitation!

I very much appreciated how the university staff welcomed me and I also loved all the social events organised by the Students’ Union - I enjoyed joining the basketball team and met a lot of good friends while playing a sport that I have a passion for. And obviously one of my main memories is of mixing with other international students that I met during my time here.  Meeting different people from all over the world, sharing our experiences and cultures, helping each other with our lectures and assignments, sharing social activities such as going to the pub with English people - these are the high points.

I learnt a lot from my teachers.  I like to discover a new kind of work and study approach about the theoretical side and the way to deal with marketing and management.  And I enjoyed being in contact with a lot of internationals students in my lectures which has opened my mind to how businesses are driven in countries such as China, Nigeria or Argentina. Another good thing was the availability of the teachers when faced with a problem as well as the university administration which has always been helpful.

I think there are two main things I think I’ve gained from my studies here: knowledge and self-confidence.  Knowledge because I have learnt a lot during this year. I have discovered new theories and new ways of management. I read a lot this year which has been a tremendous help to build my knowledge and reactivity while arguing about management and marketing issues.

Secondly, I would say confidence in myself because I was not really comfortable at the beginning speaking in front of 30 English people or doing a 30-minute presentation.  But I did it and I think it went pretty well; it has been one the greatest experiences in my life. Thanks to all the things I have done throughout my modules, I acquired a lot of skills, especially speaking in front of a crowd and I became more confident in every way.  I definitely became a different person after this year.

I will obviously miss my friends and all the people that I have met this year. It was such a strong experience that it is going to be difficult to get back to my French life and especially be back in my French university. On this point I will definitely miss the English university organisation!  I will also miss speaking English, which is a language that I really love, and travelling all around the UK.

I am actually applying to do my second year of masters in a French university.  I will complete my last year in international business which will consist of studying for one semester and doing a placement abroad during the second semester.  So, maybe I will be back in England!  I’m very grateful to everyone who contributed to making my stay here so enjoyable; it has been such a great year and I will never forget it!
