Multimedia Web Design 2012 Entry

Honours Degree

How important is web access for you?

Anyone can use a template to create a site, but if you’re keen to design innovative, interactive multimedia websites for business and personal use, then this course could be for you.

We’ll help you become an expert at designing textual information, 2D and 3D images, animation, audio and video content as well as exploring the scripting necessary to build effective business applications.

You’ll use a range of delivery technologies including personal computers, games consoles and mobile devices as well as large-scale exhibition displays involving imaginative 3D worlds and augmented reality to convey information engaging a range of different users.

The purpose may be connected with entertainment, education or the marketing of products and always includes a consideration of the design in terms of the user experience.

You’ll develop computing knowledge, design and creative skills as well as commercial awareness of legal and ethical aspects.

You can tailor your programme to be more technical or more creative in nature. You will cover a wide range of software including Adobe Flash and Photoshop, Avid video editing as well as web authoring in Dreamweaver and the use of 3DS Max. Working in the well equipped labs and media editing suites prepares you for the teamwork which is essential for the industry.

"Simply having a degree nowadays is not enough to start higher up on the career ladder so the placement gave me that opportunity to answer those ‘targeted selection’ questions at interviews."

BSc (Hons) Multimedia
I had completed a HND in Software Engineering at Trowbridge College which was run under Bath University. I was able to use my credits to skip the first year at the University of Gloucestershire.
The best thing about the course has been the staff. I found the lecturers the best I have ever had to work with. The local area of Cheltenham is really nice and in some parts pretty classy!
The high points for me were my final year! I missed the opportunity to live in halls (really regret that). During my final year, however, I ended up in a house right in the centre of town and met some true lifelong friends. It was the year I worked my hardest but also had the time of my life.
I gained most from my year in industry. I worked just south of Milton Keynes and it gave me some real-life experience working in a company and putting my skills into practice. I would highly recommend this.  Simply having a degree nowadays is not enough to start higher up on the career ladder so the placement gave me that opportunity to answer those ‘targeted selection’ questions at interviews.
I have recently bought a house in Cheltenham with my girlfriend (who I met in my final year!) and working full-time in Tewkesbury.  My job title is Web Developer, International, which means I look after the web development needs of 29 sites globally as part of the Moog International Group.
My plans are to continue developing my skills as a software developer, learn more within a large corporation and eventually start my long, hard climb up the career ladder!
