Graduate Diploma
Psychology (Conversion)
This Course, accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), is designed for graduate students who wish to change career paths and pursue professional Psychology. Successful completion of the Graduate Diploma should make students eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the BPS (pending BPS approval) and allow entry to professional training courses in Psychology. As such, the Graduate Diploma may be the first step towards one of the many different careers in Psychology, be that in Clinical, Forensic, Occupational, Health, Counselling, or Educational Psychology.
The course can be studied part time or full time. Unfortunately, evening study is not available. Students take a subset of modules from the University’s undergraduate psychology Course, completing eight modules, with three at level 5 and five at level 6. These modules are:
Level 2
PY208 – Investigative Methods (30 CATS)
PY210 – Perception, Learning & Memory (15 CATS)
PY217 - Lifespan Development (15 CATS)
Level 3
PY313 – Cognitive Neuropsychology (15 CATS)
PY315 – History & Theories of Psychology (15 CATS)
PY321 - Interpersonal and Group Behaviour (15 CATS)
PY322 - Individual Differences (15 CATS)
PY338 – Investigation (30 CATS)
All modules listed must be passed to qualify for the award, and passed with grade C or above to qualify for accreditation.
Entry requirements
-
An honours degree in psychology which has not been accredited by the British Psychological Society
-
An ordinary degree in psychology, or
-
A degree in a subject other than psychology.
Applicants must also have studied at least half an academic year’s worth of psychology (particularly in case 3 above), although they can undertake a foundation program at the University of Gloucestershire if this is not the case.
The Graduate Diploma is designed for students who hold a first degree or similar qualification, and want to develop knowledge or new vocational skills in a different subject area. It is essentially a conversion award, comprising the equivalent of one third of an undergraduate honours degree.
