If you're looking to understand and be innovative in sport at community and national level then this foundation course is for you. Develop the skills to deliver high-class coaching and development programmes, helping adults and children enjoy and improve their sporting abilities. Benefit from our close links to professional sports organisations such as Gloucester Rugby, England and Wales Cricket Board, Cheltenham Town FC as well as Sport England.

Work in the local sports community to develop your employability and gain skills in a range of coaching and development disciplines. We have close links with local sports clubs and partnerships, providing you with excellent opportunities to gain hands-on, industry experience. This course has been rated 100% for overall student satisfaction (NSS 2017).   Supported by staff you’ll develop a strong evidence-based approach to coaching. Built upon scientific and sociological principles, you’ll develop your technical, as well as practical, understanding of sports coaching and development.

Graduates from this programme will be well placed to pursue a career in community coaching, sport and physical activity development as well as working for a national governing body of sport. You will also develop highly employable skills such as communication, organisation and leadership.

Study style

Your course will be assessed by written, oral and practical tasks designed to develop the broad range of knowledge and skills underpinning sports coaching and development practice.
