From working as a travel consultant to marketing a prestigious tourism attraction, or even running your own niche tourism company, this course is designed to give you the skills and experience to succeed in the global tourism industry.

Build your experience through a work-based placement in your first year and a year-long placement in your third year. We have links to resort destinations in the USA and Canada, and a wide variety of UK tourism businesses such as Gullivers Sports Travel and the Natural History Museum. You'll also have further opportunities to take part in field trips to various local tourism businesses including Gloucestershire Airport, Three Choirs Vineyard, Longborough Opera, Gloucester Cathedral, Cheltenham Racecourse and Brecon Beacons National Park. You can also take part in international field trip opportunities to locations such as Barcelona and Amsterdam.

To ensure you get the most up-to-date insight, you'll benefit from guest lectures with industry professionals and site visits. Recent guest lecturers have included David Ashford from Bristol Spaceplanes, Simon Pickup who is a sustainable tourism manager, Angela Hills who is a destination services manager, and Ben Hau who is marketing director at Marketing Gloucester.

Study style

Designed with employability as a focus, your classroom-based case studies will be supported by practical experiences gained through placements, guest lecturers and field trips to tourist venues. Your assessments will include reports, presentations, use of social media, portfolios, product launches, marketing media and conducting primary data collection.

Entry requirements

You will need 280 UCAS Tariff points to be considered for this course.

The UCAS Tariff system takes into account a wide range of qualifications including BTECs, A Levels, AS Levels, International Baccalaureate Diplomas and Access courses, to name just a few.

If you’ve studied more than one type of qualification (for example BTECs with A Levels) don’t forget to include them all in your application as they will all count towards your tariff total.
