TV industry professionals are regulars on campus, but we also go out into industry. Trips are a key part of the learning experience, particularly in your final year. We are within striking distance of three huge TV production hubs – Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham and have industry contacts in all of them.
Students visit the BBC studios in Bristol, home to departments like the world-renowned Natural History Unit. They also visit The Bottle Yard, the largest film and TV studio in the west of England and practice their networking skills at events like RTS Futures, where companies gather to meet television production students. For us, it’s all about you meeting potential employers and gaining a good understanding of how real-world TV works.
Work experience is a vital part of our course. From the beginning, students do work placements in industry, so by the time they leave the course, they already have a bank of useful contacts.
We also foster a strong sense of community among our TVP alumni. We continue to support them on their journey into the industry when they leave. In turn, they come back onto campus to help and support current students, providing them with placement opportunities if they can.
We work closely with our in-house production company Unit One Films, giving students hands-on, professional experience throughout their time here.
Previous work experience placements include:
Sex Education, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Sky’s Discovery of Witches, Apple TV, Coronation Street, Britain’s Got Talent, BBC Doctors, The Living and The Dead, Nick Knowles’ Big House Clear Out, One Born Every Minute, Celebrity Juice, X Factor, ITV Sport, Catchphrase, Netflix, Optomen TV, BBC Current Affairs, Oak Island Films, 247.TV, Drummer TV, Films at 59 Post-Production, Doghouse Post-Production, Envy Post-Production, RDF West, Cheltenham Festivals, BBA Media, IMG, Bubble Productions, Timeline TV, Mechanical Mouse, Hayfisher, Whisper TV, Jackson River Films
