Faculty of Education, Humanities and Sciences

Francis Close Hall campus

About the Faculty

The faculty takes pride in delivering a range of exciting, stimulating and engaging courses across all subject areas. Our aim is to provide an education in the humanities that has traditional depth and breadth but also recognises the valuable contribution to cultural development and national and international economies.

A diverse range of study programmes are on offer and having invested £5m over the past 10 years, the faculty is well equipped for natural and social science enquiry. The faculty is the base for the innovative Centre for Active Learning, which is constantly developing new education strategies and has been built to reflect best practice in sustainability.

The faculty is based in the beautifully restored historic buildings at Francis Close Hall, the nearest university campus to Cheltenham’s town centre. You will find the richness and diversity of a regional cultural and economic centre only a short walk away from the campus. This includes Cheltenham’s lively bars, clubs, friendly terraced streets, department stores, specialist shops, community cafes and restaurants.

The campus has a mix of Humanities, Education, Environment and Social Sciences subjects, and there will be plenty of opportunities for you to interact across disciplines both academically and socially.

Music at the University of Gloucestershire

The University now awards music scholarships and bursaries, including an organ scholarship, six choral scholarships and four instrumental scholarships. And the University Choir and Chamber Orchestra are always keen to welcome new members to their group. See More.

The London Campus

In September 2003 The London Campus became part of the university, adding to the already established teacher training provided at this faculty. The London Campus offers a one year Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education and is the base for the North East London Graduate Teacher Programme (Primary). We also arrange and supervise Teaching Placements in urban schools for students from other colleges around the country. Read more about The London Campus.
