The University of Gloucestershire’s Faculty of Education, Humanities and Sciences is celebrating the launch of five new research centres this week.
An official launch ceremony, attended by Vice Chancellor Professor Patricia Broadfoot, and colleagues from existing centres such as the International Research Institute of Sustainability, will be held at Francis Close Hall campus, Cheltenham on Monday February 16.
The faculty is home to a wide range of subjects, from criminology to creative writing, and each department offers particular strengths.
There are five newly established Academic and Research Centres:
- The Academy for Research in Education
- The Centre for Research in Applied Cognition, Knowledge, Learning and Emotion (CRACKLE)
- The Centre for Crime, Violence and Disorder
- The Centre for the Bible and Spirituality
- The Centre for the Study of Floods and Communities
Dean of Research, Professor Peter Childs, said the launch heralded a new era in research at the University drawing on a range of expertise.
“We aim to engage in rigorous and relevant research, and promote innovation and sustainability. Joining forces with a diverse range of stakeholders, work will include projects which are nationally and internationally recognised, but locally engaged, such as the Centre for Crime Violence and Disorder’s work with Gloucestershire Constabulary, and HM Prison Service. With more than 100 research students disseminating and celebrating the outcome of their work, we’re looking forward to building on existing partnerships in the community and beyond.”
