Former University of Gloucestershire students Freya Gabie and Naoko Miyazaki are amongst 40 artists who have been selected to exhibit their work in a new art competition, the open west.
The 40 artists have been selected from over 380 entrants, who submitted over 2,200 works of art including paintings, installations, photographs, sculptures and drawings.
Co-ordinators Sarah Goodwin and Lyn Cluer Coleman along with Zelda Cheatle of the WMG Photography Fund and Richard Cox of Howard Gardens Gallery, Cardiff have selected the final pieces to exhibit and will award a £2,000 first prize and two runner up awards of £500 to their chosen winners.
Organiser Sarah Goodwin said, “Our carefully curated selection process has culminated in an energetic and enquiring exhibition of widely varied work that combines vigour and wit, intelligence and curiousity, metaphor and truth.”
The exhibition will run from 21 February to 27 March at the University of Gloucestershire’s Pittville Studios and Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum.
The new competition and exhibition is supported by Arts Council South West, Gloucester County Council, Cheltenham Borough Council, the University of Gloucestershire, Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum and Ecotricity.
