Brides-to-be, wedding planners and event managers have given their blessing to University’s Park campus to view the leafy site as a potential venue for Cotswold weddings.
The University’s 9.5 hectare estate, centered in the prestigious Park area of Cheltenham offers landscaped gardens and an ornamental lake, which could provide a stunning backdrop for drinks receptions or wedding breakfasts.
Larger marquees, funfairs or other entertainments can be erected on Broadlands Lawn which lies adjacent to the Fullwood grounds for weddings or other functions such as parties and family celebrations.
Ellen Taylor, Acting Head of Commercial Services, said: “We were delighted that so many prospective couples and industry colleagues were able to attend our launch event. The event was successfully co-ordinated by event management students who did an excellent job."
“Working with Fews Marquees, R&R Catering Hire and the Vanilla Pod Bakery, we are able to offer a unique venue, creating a country setting within the heart of Regency Cheltenham.”
The Park site was developed in 1831 by Thomas Billings who bought the land intending to build the Gloucestershire Zoological, Botanical and Horticultural Gardens. Shortly after, Samuel Daukes turned The Park into pleasure grounds and built the villas which are dotted around the edge of the estate.
The grounds include a meadow with native woodland plants and over 900 trees, including rare species and a Yew planted in 1831.
Current or former students and staff members of the University of Gloucestershire can also choose to have their marriage ceremony at the College Chapel at the University’s Francis Close Hall.
Staff, students and Alumni benefit from a 10% discount off grounds and room hire, plus a further 10% off if the wedding booked will take place before 10th September 2011.
