National Scholarship Programme (NSP)

The National Scholarship Programme is a government programme designed to benefit individual students from disadvantaged backgrounds as they enter higher education from Autumn 2012.

It is funded jointly by the Government and the University of Gloucestershire.

In 2012/13 the University will be offering 92 full-time equivalent scholarships of £6,000 (pro-rata for part-time) to students who meet the following essential eligibility criteria:

  • are students from England;
  • are subject to the new 2012/13 annual fee of £8,250
  • are a new full or part-time* undergraduate student starting university for the first time in 2012
  • have an assessed household income of £20,000 or less;

    * part-time students must be studying a minimum of 25% intensity of full-time equivalent

Note: Meeting this essential eligibility criterion does not equate to an entitlement to a scholarship.

You are not eligible if you are:

  • a student on a Foundation Course
  • a student who has been to University before, even if you did not complete your studies
  • a student continuing on a course commenced before September 2012
  • a student transferring from one course to another that they started before September 2012 e.g. HND to a degree
  • a postgraduate student

Priority will be given to care leavers, disabled students and students from compact schools and colleges.

The Scholarship will be paid over the duration of a students’ course of study.

These scholarships will take the form of a £3,000 waiver applied against fees in the first year of study.
Students who receive this scholarship in their first year will also receive a fee waiver of £1,500 in their second and final years of study, resulting in a reduction in fees of £6,000 over a three year course.

Part-time students will be eligible on a pro-rata basis. Part-time students must study at least 25% of an equivalent full time course, each year, to be eligible.

Students in receipt of NSP funding will not be eligible for other University bursaries, except for the Disabled Sports Scholarship Scheme and the Hardship Fund.

Application Forms will be available from Summer 2012.
