Homecoming for double Olympic gold winner Lizzy Yarnold

​Britain’s most successful Winter Olympian, Lizzy Yarnold, is returning to the university following her success at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, this time as a guest speaker in the Public Lecture Series.

The skeleton racer will be speaking at a Park campus on Wednesday 2 May where she will be joined by Head of the Media School, Anne Dawson. The two will discuss her career since leaving the university up to the point where she became the most successful Olympic skeleton athlete of all time. There will also be an opportunity for audience members to ask their own questions.

Lizzy, who graduated from the university with a BSc in Geography and Sport and Exercises Sciences, became Britain’s most decorated Winter Olympian in PyenongChang in February. She first received a university sports scholarship in 2007 as an athlete, but took up skeleton while studying at the university. Lizzy received an Honorary Doctorate from the University in 2014.

Lizzy Yarnold MBE said: “It has been a few years since I received my Honorary Doctorate so I am delighted to now be returning to the University of Gloucestershire, which holds many special memories for me.”

Admission to the lecture is free, but tickets need to be reserved in advance (link removed as event has finished). The talk is from 6pm at TC007, The Park, 2 May, with refreshments available at Elwes Reception from 5pm. ​
