Young and old take to the floor to celebrate university’s annual Tea Dance

The university’s Students’ Union will be hosting their annual Christmas Tea Dance on Friday 30 November at Park campus in Cheltenham. Guests are invited to accompany students onto the dancefloor for a series of Ballroom and Latin dances.

Joined by Vice-Chancellor Stephen Marston, the Students’ Union are expecting to welcome around eighty guests from retirement homes in the local area for an afternoon of tea, waltzes and jives.

The Tea Dance adheres is a long-standing tradition at the university and has been taking place since 1996, offering students the opportunity to volunteer and interact with members of the community.

The Students’ Union has over five hundred student volunteers who contribute to community work including the Freshers’ Volunteers, who welcome new students each September and the Student Community Patrollers, who patrol the night-time economy areas of Cheltenham on student nights.

The Students’ Union President, Madi Azizi, said:

“The Tea Dance is a fantastic event that staff and student volunteers look forward to each year. This is a unique event and a highlight in our calendars. It’s great to see the local community enjoying themselves with our student volunteers at this festive time of year. I shall also be joining in, learning the dance steps and enjoying the tea and cake”.

Admission to the Tea Dance costs £2 and will begin at 11am in TC007 at Park campus, Cheltenham on Friday 30 November, with refreshments available.
