Students takeover Wychwood Festival stage

Fifteen student acts from the university have been chosen to perform at this year’s Wychwood Festival, 1 – 3 June.

Popular Music student, Demi Marriner, who reached number one in the iTunes Country album charts, will take to the mainstage on Sunday 3 June, with classmates Watercolours (a BBC Introducing act) and Jack Cooper (from the 2000trees festival line up) performing on the Wychwood FM stage and Bandstand. This year’s line up will also include performances from The Gipsy Kings, Baxter Dury and Feeder.

Students from the university will also return to host Wychwood 87.7 FM, a dedicated station run by student volunteers from the university’s Tone Radio Society. Working collaboratively with the Festival, students will keep listeners up to date with the latest coverage of all the acts and live performances.

The Gloucestershire-based festival features three full days of live music, comedy and family fun with acts like Dick & Dom taking to the stage. In 2018 it was named as one of the best family friendly festivals in the UK by Out & About Live.

Andrew Lansley, Senior Lecturer in Popular Music and Radio Production, said: “We have been working with Wychwood for almost a decade providing staff, support and top talent from the university across the site. 2018 will see our students programming and running the Acoustic & Wheelbarrow stages, broadcasting throughout the festival on Wychwood 87.7FM as well as taking up various sets and roles across the site. Giving our students access to events of this size in positions of great responsibility is an unbeatable experience and another spectacular entry on the CVs to set them apart on graduation”

This year’s Wychwood Festival will take place at Cheltenham Racecourse from 1 – 3 June. Tickets for the festival are open to the public and can be purchased from the festival’s website.
