Freshers’ Fayre welcomes new students

New students at the University of Gloucestershire are looking ahead to the rest of Freshers’ Fortnight after Freshers’ Fayre took place at the Park campus yesterday (September 23).

The University’s Students’ Union have been working hard to prepare for the arrival of more than 2,000 students as well as the return of current students for the new academic year.

Freshers’ Fayre features over 150 stalls with a wide range of information on university life, from jobs and volunteering to sports clubs and safety.

Students’ Union President Liam Sandford said: “It’s been a fantastic Freshers’ Fayre today and a great opportunity for us to promote everything the Students’ Union has to offer and what students can get involved in throughout the year.”

Comedy nights and the Freshers’ Ball are among the events taking place this month to welcome new students.

Louise Lewis, from Bristol, has just started studying Sports Journalism at the University and said: “I didn’t realise how much was going on here today, and it’s nice to be able to see and try new things.”

Primary Education student Freddie Clements, from Poole, said he was settling into his new halls of residence adding: “I’m really enjoying it so far, today I’ve signed up for some sports teams and it’s been very busy but really good.”

Harm Reduction Officer at Gloucestershire Constabulary, Kim Mowbray, was part of a team from the police working with magician Richard Parsons to help raise awareness of anti-theft precautions. “We’ve had a great reaction today, a lot of interest and it’s a really good way of helping students be more aware.”
