Gloucester student wins art award

University of Gloucestershire student Naomi Gibbard has won the PJ Crook Award for her outstanding work.

Now working as a Graduate Advocate in Art and Design at the University, Naomi received her award from PJ Crook at her graduation ceremony at The Centaur at Cheltenham Racecourse.

PJ, an internationally acclaimed artist who has exhibited her paintings from Japan to Paris and the United States, lives in Cheltenham and presented Naomi with her award.

Naomi, from Gloucester, travelled to the British School in Rome for a month as part of her Fine Art course and says the trip was a strong influence on her work in her final year.

Through her role at the University she is visiting schools and colleges inspiring others to study art and design, and hopes to gain the skills and experience she needs to become a teacher.

“It was such a shock to receive the prize,” she said, “especially as there are so many talented artists on the course, everyone deserved to win! I was definitely not expecting the news on the night of the degree show, (and I burst in to tears!) but it was lovely to have all my friends and family around me to celebrate and receive the news with.

“My time at the University was made up of so many great and unforgettable experiences, that I would never have had if I hadn’t come here.”
