Student reaches target for Vietnamese school aid

Lisa, who is studying Business Management, started her appeal in September 2014 after visiting the Compassion Vietnam Inc (CVI) school in Ho Chi Minh city. The previous year, she was chosen to represent the UK at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit. Later in the year she went to stay with a friend she met at the summit, who took her visit the local English School.

Shocked at the lack of resources, she pledged to make a difference and appealed for books, reading and writing materials.

Lisa is currently on placement with ICT company Redsixty Limited in Tewkesbury who have offered support her campaign by paying the postage for the 130kg of books, exercise books, games and teaching aids. They will be despatched on Monday and will take a month to reach their destination.

Tewkesbury author Sheila Hoeman and Simon Hopkins from Web Video Production Television are among those who have donated books, while others have been from staff at the University of Gloucestershire and members of the public who brought items into collection boxes on campus.

“I am really looking forward to getting the books there and am enormously grateful to everyone who has been kind enough to make a donation to the appeal. All of these items will make a huge difference to the everyday education of both children and adults who are working so hard to learn English.”
