Students’ annual Christmas Tea Dance unites young and old

​The University’s Students’ Union will be hosting their annual Christmas Tea Dance on Saturday 9 December at the Oxstalls campus in Gloucester. Guests are invited to accompany students onto the dancefloor for a series of Ballroom and Latin dances.

Joined by Vice-Chancellor Stephen Marston, the Students’ Union are expecting to welcome around eighty guests from retirement homes and the local area for an afternoon of tea, waltzes and jives.

The Tea Dance adheres is a long-standing tradition at the University and has been taking place since 1996, offering students the opportunity to volunteer and interact with members of the community.

The Students’ Union has over five hundred student volunteers who contribute to community work, including the St Paul’s Children’s Projects, the Hub Club for adults with learning difficulties, the Freshers’ Volunteeers, who welcome new students each September and the Student Community Patrollers, who patrol the night-time economy areas of Cheltenham on student nights.

The Students’ Union President, Vicki Hatton, said:

“The Tea Dance is a very popular event that we love to organise. It’s great to see the local community enjoying themselves with our student volunteers, who like to ensure that our guests have a great time and get into the festive spirit.”

Admission to the Tea Dance is free and will begin at 11am in the Sports Hall at Oxstalls campus, Gloucester on 9 December, with refreshments available.
