Trainee teacher wins Gloucester Bowl

Sports Education graduate Josh Loade has won the prestigious Gloucester Bowl at the University of Gloucestershire.

Originally from the Forest of Dean, Josh, who is now studying his Primary PGCE, was presented with the award which is given to a student who has made a significant contribution to outreach work in the city of Gloucester and surrounding region.

He received his award from Mayor of Gloucester, Councillor Neil Hampson, yesterday (Thursday 3 November) at Gloucester Cathedral.

He said: “I studied Sports Education as I’d always wanted to pursue a career in education and had grown up enjoying all aspects of sport,” adding “I didn’t think for one minute I would receive any kind of prize.”

Since leaving university he has continued links with two schools with which he volunteered during his studies, with activities including supply work and field trips.

He added: “I am now settled into my Primary PGCE and I feel I have a wealth of experience that allows me to express myself in teaching and further education studies. I am very grateful to all the staff that have helped me along the way as well as my close knit group of friends. Without them I couldn’t have achieved any of this.”
