University of Gloucestershire opens for Clearing

Offering thousands of students support and advice, Clearing has opened at the University of Gloucestershire.

Students can receive a free Clearing guide when they pre-register for the VIP Clearing service and ask questions via online chat. The university is also running weekly campus tours for prospective students, and even if they don’t have their grades yet, but think clearing might be an option, students can look for courses on the UCAS website.

Last year more than 100 students secured a place at the University of Gloucestershire before A-Level results day, including those returning from a gap year, and also students receiving results from courses including BTECs.

Every year, thousands of students around the country come through Clearing for a variety of reasons. The Net Natives National Clearing Survey 2015 found that last year 53% of students chose Clearing for reasons other than not achieving their place at their first or second choice of university.

Lucian Petre, now studying Landscape Architecture at the University of Gloucestershire, is one of them. “I applied late because I took the time to think about what I wanted to do very thoroughly,” he said. “Luckily Clearing gave me that opportunity, rather than making a quick decision and being stuck on the wrong course.” Lucian added: “My advice is to not be scared to ask for help and guidance, since it’s always better to apply late for the right course than to apply early for the wrong one.”

A house hunting day on 1 September will match you with other first year students to find a place for you to live in Cheltenham or Gloucester.

Tom Kidd, Head of the Admissions Team at the University of Gloucestershire, said: “Whether you didn’t achieve the results you expected or have decided to change your plans, take a deep breath. Whatever reason you choose to come through Clearing, there are lots of opportunities for you to study, and a lot of support available to help you make the right decision.”
