St Paul’s 1953-55 Reunion
Eleven members of St Paul's 1953-55 Year group, plus spouses, held their fourth Luncheon Reunion at FCH on Friday 16th July 2010. The Luncheon was preceded by a service in College Chapel and was conducted by the Rev. Robert Webb. The organ was played by Cyril Pawley. The others who attended were Bryan Lancastle, Dave Thomas, Dave Kemp, Bill Leech, John Nicholls, John Exton, Mike Arnison, John Gilbert and Dave Evans (Year Secretary).

St Paul's 50th Anniversary Reunion, Saturday 16th October 2010

A bright crisp morning last October saw eighteen 1960-63 Year Group students, (including Jeff Barrow from Australia), plus their wives meeting at Francis Close Hall to celebrate a ‘Fifty Years On’ Reunion. The day began with coffee in the University Refectory which gave opportunity for many to identify and recognise others for the first time for 50 years. This was followed by a service in the College Chapel led by Revd Brian Torode and a sermon by Revd Neville Manning. Lunch took place in the Refectory and the day continued with a tour of the campus including visits to both old and new buildings. It ended with a visit to the archives. Our thanks go to Cheryl Higgs and Lorna Scott for looking after us. The day was greatly enjoyed and prompted many memories of our time at St Paul’s. It once again highlighted the sense of togetherness which remains even in spite of the passing years.

OSA Biennial Reunion 16 – 18th July 2010
July saw over 200 alumni from the Colleges of St Paul and St Mary return to the University’s Park and Francis Close Hall Campuses for their Old Students’ Association (OSA) Biennial Reunion.
The weekend was full of activities including a game of golf, “non-smoking concert”, chapel service and mini reunions. In particular alumni from the St Mary’s year groups 1960-63 and 1950-52 were celebrating 50 and 60 years respectively since starting at St Mary’s College.
Alumni took advantage of the good weather to catch up with old friends, visit old haunts and remember how things used to be, before bidding farewell and promising to return again in two years time.
A selection of photographs from the reunion can be viewed here and are available to buy on the University’s Online Store.
Copies of the above photographs can be purchased on the University’s Online Store. Alternatively email or post your completed merchandise order form (PDF or MS Word) to the Alumni Office.

Golden Anniversary Celebrations
Gloucestershire Training College of Domestic Science 1959-62

September 1959 saw 48 young ladies, mostly straight out of school enter the then Gloucestershire Training College of Domestic Science to start a 3 year teacher training course. The college had recently moved to the Oxstalls Lane site (Oxstalls Campus) from Barrack Square near the prison and docks in Gloucester.
50 years later we managed to contact twenty-two of the original group. Two live abroad but 17 of us met up for our Golden reunion. It was a great day. Old photographs were produced, grey hair admired, much talk and laughter. We were so well looked after by the University Staff, Kelly Wells, Liz Annett and Lorna Scott who in turn learnt about life in Gloucester long before they were born and we certainly admired the facilities present students enjoy today.
We hope it is not another fifty years before we meet again!

St Mary's 1959-61

A group of former students from St Paul's and St Mary's met in Cheltenham on a bright sunny weekend in March. They were celebrating the fact that 50 years ago, in 1959 they arrived at their respective colleges to begin training for the teaching profession. Now most of them are retired but they found it good to reminisce. They stayed at the Queen's Hotel as, during their time in Cheltenham, they could never even afford to enter those hallowed portals even for a coffee.
On Saturday morning they enjoyed a tour of the Park Campus followed by a visit to the Archives down at St Paul's. Some of the former Students from St Paul's who had married Old Sims could remember the times that they had hurriedly escorted their young ladies to the entrances of Pallas, Broadlands and Fullwood. They recalled a passing acquaintance with some bushes! The Old Sims talked of the times that they had rushed to sign in at 10 o'clock and one person (no name given) remembered climbing in through a window.
On Saturday evening there was a splendid Gala dinner at the Queens. Many people had brought photographs and scrap books and spent time identifying those who hadn't managed to join the reunion group.
Next year in early March they will be spending a weekend, or even a three day break, together in York.
