The Coat of Arms is representative of the County of Gloucestershire and has been developed in associationwith the College of Arms.
The design incorporates elements from the history of the county. These elements include a horseshoe, taken from a Tudor Grant to the City of Gloucester; Stags, taken from the grant of the Royal Forest of Dean; the three chevronels of Clare, from the grant of the historic earls of Gloucestershire; the cross of Edward the Confessor, first Lord of the manor of Cheltenham and representation of the Rivers Wye and Severn which run through the county.
The Coat of Arms demonstrates the intention of he university to embed itself in the life of the county and the text, taken from the Vulgate version of the Bible, draws attention to the Christian foundations of the University and is translated in spirit and in truth.
