BA (Hons) Photography: Editorial and Advertising
"I chose the University of Gloucestershire as it was the university that I warmed to instantly. The Editorial and Advertising course appealed as it was focused on a future career, rather than studying Photography in general. I remember finding the Open Day most welcoming and very relaxed. I didn’t go away with unanswered questions, just a feeling that I wanted to return.
I enjoyed being near to Cheltenham Racecourse - working at the races for extra cash and attending some really interesting shows that take place there, not forgetting the fantastic car boot sale every Sunday! I’m sure other alumni would agree that Cheltenham also has some brilliant night life.
The highlights of my time at University were having the chance to exhibit work in London and at the NEC – fantastic experiences, massive learning curves and great fun….with a touch of stress! Additionally I worked at Harpers Bazaar magazine in London; with Rankin, fashion photographer and with Harry Borden, portrait photographer. These opportunities helped to give me the skills to progress into a career in the photographic industry.
I was a member of the women’s football team and the ‘Boardriders, both of which were great fun, socially and physically. I took part in surfing weekends and tours of Spain playing football.
Since I graduated in 2008, I have been assisting a photographer, doing my own commissions and working on personal projects to strengthen my portfolio and progress as a photographer. I’m hoping to go to Ecuador on a volunteer placement programme later this year – a photography placement working for an Ecuadorian magazine."
