On Breath 2002 glass and lead, 16ft x 4 ft x 14 inches (shown in the Triforium, Gloucester Cathedral)"What struck me most were the cyclical rhythms of ritual at Gloucester Cathedral; the underlying connection of medieval Christianity to the cycles of nature and more ancient beliefs; primitive relationships with light and darkness, life, death, rebirth and renewal.  The cathedral as a container for sound and silence, in which the spoken and sung word took on extraordinary presence.  Being given the opportunity to work in the cathedral alone at night was hugely influential, leading to the development of several important new works in projected light.

"Beyond this, the unique communities of the Cathedral, University and City became involved in my practice as artist and teacher – this was a truly supportive, enriching and challenging residency."
