Media, heritage management and popular music students produced a DVD commissioned by the Cheltenham Hebrew Community which was shown at Cheltenham’s first festival of Jewish Culture.
Abigail Gardner, Jo Garde-Hansen, and Dave Dalby produced the short histories along with Leah Kauffman-Elliott from the Hebrew community. They interviewed over 20 older members of the Jewish faith living in Gloucestershire and recorded their stories including those who came to the county as refugees.
Abigail Gardner, senior lecturer in media and popular music theory said: ”The experience was inspiring and thought-provoking and we are pleased that the University could collaborate so creatively with a local community on preserving their memories.”
Mrs Kauffman-Elliot added: “The students worked together with so much enthusiasm, it was absolutely fantastic and a beautiful experience.”
The DVD will be kept in the synagogue archives and used for educational outreach work.
