SportsCV is a programme that enables University of Gloucestershire students to gain valuable coaching qualifications and experience whilst giving something back to local communities in Gloucestershire. The volunteering initiative is supported by HEFCE Active Community Funds.
Students can apply to join the SportsCV scheme which will give them the opportunity to enhance their curriculum vitae and obtain valuable volunteering experiences whilst working towards a recognised National Governing Body (NGB) Coaching Award of their choice. Previous students have gained qualifications in, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, football and rugby.
Participating students will have completed courses in Emergency Aid, Equity in Your Coaching, Safeguarding and Protecting Children as well as gaining satisfactory CRB clearance at the Enhanced Level.
On successful completion of the NGB award, students are allocated a placement in the local community
where they will put into practice their new skills whilst being mentored by experienced coaches. Placements could be within a variety of settings such as football, rugby, hockey clubs and also school and community groups within Gloucestershire.
All students also assist with at least one sporting festival or event such as swimming galas, football festivals, talent identification days, giving them the opportunity to see how large events are organised and allowing for invaluable networking opportunities.
The achievements of the successful students were celebrated at a Presentation Evening in April, with certificates presented by Willie Walker from Gloucester Rugby Club.
