No Limits

Programme Type: Outreach Project

No Limits is a long running sports club for young people with disabilities. It is hosted by the University at the Oxstalls Campus and uses the superb facilities to help introduce young people to sport and to help them develop their skills and confidence. By offering best practice in inclusive coaching, and ensuring one-to-one support for all participants, No Limits has had a major impact on participants and their sporting aspirations.

The club is overseen by Jo Hardman, Principal Lecturer in Sport, and David Palmer, Active Inclusion Coach, and students from a wide range of programmes work as volunteers and leaders under their guidance. Many students are introduced to the club through the Level 2 module Adapted Physical Activity (APA), which is a core element of the BSc Sport Education, Sports Development and Sports Coaching degrees. The APA module uses service learning – a sophisticated approach to understanding both theory and practice – to engage students in this challenging work. Many individuals then choose to continue their work with No Limits as a volunteer or through one of the many placement modules on offer.

No Limits has helped to ignite a real interest in sport for people with disabilities at the University, and is part of the wider Active Inclusion initiative, a partnership with Active Gloucestershire.
