Professor Peter Childs
Dean of Research

Peter heads up the leadership and coordination of Research Development activity in the University’s Research Office.  His role involves the internal strategic development of sustainable research excellence and external liaison with local, regional, national and international research organisations.  Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Peter works with colleagues to oversee: the maintenance of the Postgraduate Student Research Experience, management of the Research Excellence Framework and other government assessments, all aspects of research quality assurance and enhancement, central support for Research Funding and development, and the promotion of staff research opportunities, news, and activity.

Dr Ros Jennings
Head of Postgraduate Research

Ros leads the Postgraduate Research Centre (PRC), which handles the administrative management of the research degree portfolio at University level and has overall responsibility for admissions and enrolment, induction, registration, changes in registration, academic progress monitoring and examination. The PRC oversees the Research Student Records System and the production of all University research degree-related handbooks and other documentation, including the Research Degrees Handbook of Regulations and Procedures, a PGR Student Handbook, and the University’s Research Forms. The PRC also works towards the generation of management information for a variety of external surveys, including those of the HEFCE, and the UK Research Councils. It additionally co-ordinates the Research Supervisors’ Support Programme  and provides committee support to the University Research Degrees Committees and the Research Ethics Sub-Committee (RESC).
