The Exercise and Sport Research Centre (ESRC) conducts research in a wide range of sport, exercise and health related areas. Housed in the Faculty of Sport, Health and Social Care, ESRC has research links with University Research Institutes (eg CCRI, IRIS) and several academic areas (eg Psychology). Researchers in the Centre also work closely with the Centre for Sport, Spirituality and Religion (CSSR), which is also hosted by the Faculty of Sport, Health & Social Care.
The aims of the ESRC are to:
- Promote the current research in the area of exercise and sport
- Provide a focus and identity for the research in exercise and sport
- Provide an academic home for research students in exercise and sport and promote research student opportunities
- Exploit potential to bid for funding for research in exercise and sport
- Embed research activity within the Department of Sport and Exercise and beyond
- Provide a point of contact for external collaborators, and develop a network of associated staff
- Provide a point of contact for Departments, Centres and Institutes internally who may wish to collaborate.
Due to the diverse nature of the topic, the activity in the ESRC currently cohere around four main strands of research activity:
