Gloucestershire Let's Get Moving: Physical Activity (PA) Care Pathway Project

ContactDr Diane Crone

NHS Gloucestershire and staff at the University are working together to design a physical activity care pathway for Gloucestershire. Care pathways are becoming a key feature in health care, and such pathways already exist for conditions of Obesity and Diabetes.  The Physical Activity Care Pathway is a primary care initiative, designed to complement existing care pathways for specific conditions, and increase physical activity levels in the adult population.  The programme is based on the Department of Health’s (2009) Let’s Get Moving physical activity pathway recommendations document.

This work draws on the teams previous commissioned evaluations of the South Staffordshire PA Pathway project and the Birmingham Young People's PA pathway project, information on both of these and related reports can be found on their project websites.

The team who have won this year long contract are drawn from the University of Gloucestershire (Dr’s Diane Crone and Colin Baker, and Prof David James) and Staffordshire University (Dr Chris Gidlow). The team will provide advice and consultancy on the design of the pathway and then evaluate it once it is in operation. They bring considerable experience of physical activity, primary care interventions and partnership working to the project from their experiences of evaluating the two previous PA pathway projects, and of their physical activity promotion work generally.

The project is in its early stages of development at present but when further information is available it will be provided here.
