Play and Health Literature Review Project

Contact – Dr’s Diane Crone, Nic Matthews and Lindsey Kilgour.

The University of Gloucestershire was commissioned by Playwork Partnerships to undertake a critical review of literature of the role of play in holistic health.  Concerned with the lack of available evidence for the role of play, Playwork Partnerships (www.playwork.co.uk) commissioned the literature review to provide them, and the play work environment, with a summary of the published evidence underpinning play for the health of children.

The evaluation team included Dr.’s Diane Crone (lead), Nic Matthews (report lead), Lindsey Kilgour and researcher Patrizio De Rossi.

The critical review used a systematic approach to searching available databases for relevant peer reviewed articles. The final report and executive summary of the findings are available below:

Literature review to investigate the evidence underpinning the role of play for holistic health: Final Report.

Literature review to investigate the evidence underpinning the role of play for holistic health: Executive Summary.
