Tewkesbury - Living for the Future

Contact - Dr Diane Crone

The Healthy Town project Count Me In! Tewkesbury ran from September 2009 until March 2011.

Tewkesbury was one of only nine towns across the country that successfully bid to be part of the  Government led ‘Healthy Towns’ project. The other towns included Portsmouth, Manchester, Sheffield, Tower Hamlets, Halifax, Dudley, Middlesbrough and Thetford.

The Healthy Community Challenge Fund was part of a much bigger programme of Government led activity called Change4Life which is designed to tackle the epidemic of obesity. The Government funding was to be used to test out the ideas across the nine towns to make active and healthy food choices easier for their communities.

The University of Gloucestershire have evaluated the project. The team, led by Dr Diane Crone, included Professor David James, Dr Mary Mahoney and PhD student Noreen O’Connell-Gallagher.
