Researching Running is Common Sense?

During September and October 2008, Dr John Hockey was Visiting Fellow at Concordia University (Montreal) which has a specialist research team (CONSERT) in the anthropology and sociology of the senses, two disciplines which underpin his current interest in physical literacy.

The RAE – AcRE members score a result!

The RAE results are excellent news for research in the Department of Education. The majority of work submitted (drafted by John Hockey) for the RAE assessment, by members of the AcRE team, has been judged of international significance with 1 in 4 of the publications recognised as internationally excellent and world leading.

Professor Mary Fuller’s recent success in completing an ESRC project graded as outstanding and the publication of an edited book as part of the TLRP Series in the New Year has added further momentum to the Department’s strategic aim of making research a priority for development.

AcRE Launch

In preparation for the AcRE Launch (April 22nd 2009), Andrea McGowan, Russ Shalofsky and Gareth Nutt are organising a display of the Department’s recent and continuing work in the areas of educational research, teaching and learning.

Research Trip to Sweden

A field trip is taking place in February 2009 involving a group of students, Dr Janet Rose and Professor Mary Fuller. They will be visiting five early years’ settings in Stockholm.

Some AcRE Publications - recent or forthcoming

Kate Thompson, Jackie Turner and Professor Steve Rayner are writing a chapter for zx. This will include an account of work in the area of zxzx. This is an early example of two RIGs collaborating (Foundation and English). The chapter is based on continuing research in developing pedagogic practice for the primary classroom, specifically re-modeling teacher lesson preparation.
