Recognised as being of international quality, research is shared between two academic departments, offering a breadth of staff expertise and providing excellent opportunities for a broad range of subject specific and interdisciplinary collaborative research. Research activity embraces practice- based investigation and systematic theoretical enquiry.
Benefiting from the resources and expertise to support applied and theoretical enquiry, the School of Art and Design offers research opportunities in subject disciplines that include Drawing, Painting, Graphic Design, Photography, Digital Media, Printmaking, Sculpture, Animation and Moving Image.
Research in the School of Media spans subject disciplines that include Film, Media and Cultural Studies, News and Journalism, Popular Music and Performance, Visual Culture and Cultural History, Gender and Technology, Advertising and Public Relations, Memory, Television, and Ageing.
Our Research Centres build upon areas of specialist collective expertise, encouraging and fostering the sharing of knowledge and innovative interdisciplinary approaches to research.
The University actively supports national and international funding bids; both the Faculty and our research students have successfully secured recent funding from sources that include AHRC; Arts Council England; GWR.
Hosting a series of open lectures from leading researchers, artists and industry professionals and boasting a thriving exhibition programme all of which contributies to the active dissemination and discussion of research across a range of disciplines
